US Airways flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River just after takeoff this afternoon.
The plane was en route from Laguardia to Charlotte, North Carolina. U.S. Coast Guard units responded immediately, and a nearby ferry helped by dropping life jackets into the river.
The plane did not sink immediately; many passengers were able to escape on to U.S. Coast Guard boats alongside the aircraft. With over 150 people on baord the plane, the officials confirmed that everyone is alive and off the plane.
